Learning from merchandise logistics

We encounter logistics every day, be it trucks on the road or goods transported by rail. There is a good reason for this: Every person and every company is dependent on the smooth, fast and cost-effective provision of goods and products. But what about logistics for data, documents and information in companies?

The importance and benefits of the DOXiS iECM Suite can be illustrated very simply by a comparison with logistics. In the same way that a term like ‘merchandise logistics’ describes the overall handling of goods, the DOXiS iECM Suite quite simply takes care of the planning, management and provision of information along the chain of business processes within a company. In a nutshell: iECM is ‘information logistics’.

Whatever information you need and wherever you need it, integrated Enterprise Content Management (iECM) delivers the right information at the right place, at the right time, in the right quality, in the right combination and at the right cost.

Nowadays, no company would seriously think of using a different solution for order entry than the one they use for invoicing and materials management. ERP has long become established as an all-in-one solution. The same will apply to iECM in the future. The whole is more than the sum of its individual parts.

Information logistics with a company-wide focus is hardly conceivable or sensible in economic or organisational terms without an integrated infrastructure. This is the idea behind iECM.

From a technological point of view, the DOXiS iECM Suite integrates functions familiar from systems that used to be designed on an individual basis for archiving, document management, workflow and knowledge management. Looked at from an organisational point of view, DOXiS provides efficient and effective planning, control, co-ordination, implementation and monitoring of all internal and inter-company information flows.

iECM closes the logistical chain in companies by steering information along the business processes and managing, providing and saving it throughout its entire lifecycle. The technological performance can be seen in the seamless integration with existing infrastructure so that all logistical information processes in the (frequently heterogeneous) IT landscape, can be universally harmonised and controlled across all the systems.
